Naive Melodies

Naive Melodies

Naive Melodies was formed in Arcata, CA early in 2011, performing and honoring music created by Talking Heads. Sets are designed to interweave older and newer Talking Heads songs. Fans can expect to hear a wide range of material, from early art-rock, to radio hits, and everything in-between. With blends of three-part harmonies, synthesizers, and heavy grooves, this 3-piece dance machine does Talking Heads right!

Absynth Quartet

Absynth Quartet melds the familiar and the avant-gard with a unique and provocative palette of tone and texture. This is street corner swing with a sense of humor, bluegrass with foot stomping danceability, all intertwined with playful forays into the depths of sophisticated musical experimentation. The synergy of these seemingly divergent styles ends up sounding something like Yonder Mountain String Band meets Phish... with a little bit of firelit gypsy caravan folk thrown in for good measure. The Eugene Weekly places the sound "somewhere along the spectrum of acoustic-improvisational-gypsy-jazz...with a dash of Eastern European exoticism that puts you in a smoky, understated hash bar kind of mood". Listening to the AQ is akin to being served an exotic meal (or mind altering beverage) one could never hope to replicate at home. You have to go out for this kind of stuff.

The Honky Tonk Detours

The Honky Tonk Detours

The Honky Tonk Detours love playing vintage honky tonk and alt-country music. The tunes range from classic songs by Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline and Buck Owens to ones by younger artists like Sturgill Simpson, The Mavericks and the Detours’ own Jake Wiegandt.

The band is comprised of: guitarist/vocalist Jake Wiegandt; Rick Levin, guitars/vocals; Ron Sharp, bass; and Paul DeMark, drums/vocals.

For the 2016 Oyster Festival, the band will be joined by extraordinary vocalist/acoustic guitarist Nola Pierce singing classics by Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams.

Pierce is also currently playing with Belles of the Levee, Moon Pine and Opossum Sun Trail.

Levin and Sharp are also founding and current members of the country rock band Cadillac Ranch. DeMark also plays with The Delta Nationals and is a former member of LaPatina Band.

Wiegandt also performs with Cliff Dallas and the Death Valley Troubadours. He is a former member of Rooster McClintock and LaPatina Band.

The Detours play the second Saturday of every month at the Mad River Brewery. Check them out on Facebook: Honky-Tonk Detours.
